Claymation

We decided to try and have more than just one thing happening which went well and gave it more of an animated feel.

Although it was easy it was time consuming which was an issue.

Pictures of the Clay Models

We took pictures of our clay models in different positions.
I did not know that taking the pictures were so time consuming due to the fact it took us around 45 minutes to actually take about 10-20 seconds each picture when put into final cut.

How ever when we editted the video and made the video clips shorted which made the video alot more animated.

I found it difficult to keep the camera still although it was on a tripod it still moved ever so slightly which moved the whole scene about, this was a big issue when we tried to move the models we would sometimes move teh camera and finding the right position it was in before turned out quite time consuming. However the other proble when we was taking the pictures was the lighting. We had taken the pictures in a confined dark area which was an issue as people would walk past and cast there shadows across the scene making us have to go back and retake the pictures.

Blackton Animation

Blackton

Blackton animation is where at each frame you draw an extra piece to the drawing and record every little bit you add, and then pause it whilst you are drawing, which makes the image look like its being drawn its self and makes the image look like its animated.

This is a very cool technique although it can take a long duration to actually collect the clips needed.

I have tried doing this animation and i found it incredible hard as if you do a mistake it makes the animation look out of place and distorted as well as it takes a long time to record, as we were only recording around 30 seconds of film it took us arround 40 minutes to actually create which wasvery slow.

Flip Books

Flip Books

Flip books were a great way of entertainment before the tv and radio was actually invented. Lots of people have tried making flip books from just sketching on there text books in class to professional flip book drawers.

Flip book are made by drawing little things onto a piece of paper and then go to the next page and in the same palce draw it again but in a different position and carry on doing that until there is lots of pages draw on. Once thats does you would flip the book from start to finish and as the pages are moving fast it will cause the picture to look like its moving.

Bird and the Cage

Bird in the Cage Animation

The brid in the cage animation was used to show the use of animation and how fast moving images created a life like view of still images.

The way this was used was by having string or a rubber band on each side of the circle and having a picture on seach side of the circle, in our case we used a bird and a cage.

When spinning the circle by  twisting the rubber bands it would spin fast giving the effect that the bird was in the cage. Although this is a very simple version of animation it still shows how your mind can get confused with fast moving images and shows the image as life like.

Clay Animation

Clay Animation

Claymation is a type of animation in which you design a figure and use still shots with the figure changing places every frame making it look alive and giving that animated effect.

To move the clay model you may need metal rods burried inside the clay to be able to move around the model without it breaking apart.

Clay Animation || Warrior worm

27th September 2012
Clay Animation

In todays lesson we were given a variety of clay colours and had to design a character for our clay animation that we will shoot. I decided to start on a base for the model and created a worm like shape which would make it easier for me to create flowing movement with it when it comes to shooting the animation.

The colours i used were black, white, green and pink. I used a scalpul type tool to smoothen the edges and get the correcty amount of clay for each body part.

After making the actual model i had to add wire skeleton to be able to animate the character without it falling to pieces which is called an armature.
